Can excessive dust be managed without professionals?« Back to Previous Page

After the recent construction work next door, our living room has been filled with an overwhelming amount of dust. It’s everywhere—on furniture, books, even on my son's toys when he comes back from school. The windows are kept closed most of the time to keep it out, but it still manages to get in. Have you had similar issues, and if so, did you manage to handle it yourself or did you need professional help?

Excessive dust can indeed be managed without professionals, but it depends heavily on the severity and persistence of the issue. In Dubai/UAE, we've seen many a homeowner tackle these issues themselves. However, if you find that your situation is worsening or not improving despite your efforts, it's wise to seek professional assistance.

Firstly, let’s talk about UAE regulations. The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Dubai Municipality have guidelines on indoor air quality which indirectly affect how dust should be managed in residential areas. Adhering to these can help maintain a healthier living environment. For now though, let's focus on practical tips.

Firstly, keeping your windows closed during construction periods is a good start. Invest in HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters for your air conditioning system as they are effective at trapping fine particles like dust. Using a dehumidifier can also help reduce the moisture that might be contributing to the dust accumulation.

Regular cleaning is key. Use microfiber cloths which trap dust better than traditional ones and avoid stirring up dust by gently sweeping or vacuuming with a HEPA-filtered vacuum cleaner. Dust from furniture, books, and toys can accumulate quickly; hence, regular cleaning of these items will help reduce the overall dust load in your home.

DIY air purifiers can be handy as well. There are various models available that can be easily installed and used to clean indoor air. However, ensure you choose a model with true HEPA filters for optimal performance.

In terms of preventive measures, consider sealing gaps around windows and doors with weatherstripping to prevent dust from entering. Also, keeping plants inside your home may seem counterintuitive but they actually help in reducing the levels of dust by absorbing it into their leaves!

If after all these steps you still find that the dust is unmanageable or if it's causing health issues for family members, then I would strongly recommend seeking professional help. Companies like Saniservice are known for their expertise in handling such cases and can provide thorough cleaning and remediation services.

Remember, maintaining a clean home environment isn't just about aesthetics; it’s also crucial for your health. If you’re unsure or if the dust levels persist, don’t hesitate to contact professionals who can offer a more comprehensive solution.
