Can I clean black balcony grout myself or hire a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the tiles on my balcony in Jumeirah has gone completely black, probably from all the humidity. I've tried scrubbing it with a regular brush and cleaner, but it barely makes a dent and the whole area just looks dirty. I'm worried it might be mold and I don't have the right tools or chemicals to deal with it properly. Is this something I can realistically tackle myself with a specific product from ACE, or should I just call a professional cleaning service to handle it?

Based on the climate in Jumeirah, the black discoloration in your balcony grout is almost certainly mold and mildew growth, exacerbated by the high humidity, condensation from AC units, and frequent dust settling. This is an extremely common issue in Dubai.

While a DIY approach is possible, it is often ineffective and can be hazardous. Standard cleaners and scrubbing rarely penetrate deep into the porous grout to kill the root system of the mold. Over-the-counter bleach-based products can temporarily remove surface discoloration but often damage the grout over time, making it more susceptible to future growth, and they release harmful fumes, especially in an enclosed balcony area.

For a healthful and lasting solution, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. Our technicians at Saniservice are trained to identify the specific type of microbial growth and use industrial-grade, EPA-approved hygienization agents that eradicate the mold at its source without damaging your tiles or grout. This process not only cleans but also applies a protective sealant to prevent rapid recurrence in our harsh climate.

Attempting a significant mold removal yourself risks inadequate cleaning and potential health effects from spore agitation. For a definitive solution and to ensure your indoor air quality is not compromised, it is best to consult a professional.
