Can I clean ceiling dust myself or hire a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from all the dust that's settled on the ceiling fans and AC vents in our villa in Al Barsha. I can see a thick layer of grey dust coating everything up there, but I'm terrible with ladders and don't have the right tools to reach it. Is this a job I can safely tackle myself with a long duster from the supermarket, or should I just call a professional cleaning company to handle it?

Thick dust on ceiling fans and AC vents is a common irritant in Dubai villas, especially with our high ambient dust levels and year-round AC use that constantly circulates settled particles. For light dust on easily reachable surfaces, a long microfiber duster can be effective if you're comfortable on a stable step stool.
However, significant dust accumulation in high places, particularly if it's greasy or has visible microbial growth, often requires professional attention. Disturbing large dust deposits without proper containment can aerosolize fine particles and allergens, potentially worsening respiratory symptoms like coughing. Professionals use HEPA-filtered vacuums and techniques to capture dust rather than spread it. In Al Barsha, with its high humidity, dust on AC vents can sometimes mix with condensation, creating a substrate for mould—which would necessitate a different cleaning approach. If the dust is damp or has a musty odor, a professional inspection is advised to assess for underlying mould issues. For families with persistent respiratory symptoms, a thorough cleaning of the entire air distribution system, including ducts, is often the most effective solution to improve indoor air quality. |
