Can I clean this AC mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom closet has been leaking a bit for a couple of weeks, and now I'm seeing a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall and on some of my shoes. I tried wiping it with vinegar but the smell is still really strong and it came right back. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call a professional company to deal with it properly?

Based on your description, this is a situation that requires professional intervention. The combination of persistent AC leakage, visible black mold growth, and a strong, recurring musty odor indicates an established mold colony that has likely penetrated the porous surfaces of your wall and shoes. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create a perfect breeding ground for mold, a surface-level cleaning with vinegar is insufficient. Vinegar may kill some surface spores but will not address the root moisture problem or remove the deeper mycotoxins causing the smell.

Attempting a stronger DIY cleaner is not advisable. Agitating the mold can aerosolize spores, potentially leading to respiratory issues and spreading the contamination to other areas of your home. Proper remediation requires industrial-grade HEPA air scrubbers, antimicrobial agents, and techniques to safely contain and remove the affected materials, all in compliance with Dubai Municipality's strict health and environmental standards for indoor air quality.

The initial step is a professional mold inspection, which includes moisture mapping and air quality testing to identify the full extent of the problem. The AC unit itself will also need to be inspected and hygienized to prevent recurrence. For a thorough and permanent solution that safeguards your health and property, I strongly recommend contacting a certified professional company.
