Can I fix cloudy marble from hard water or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

My villa’s marble floor in the living area has become really dull and has these cloudy, white stains that won't come up, and I think it might be from the hard water. I've tried mopping with regular floor cleaners, but it seems to have made it worse. Is this something I can fix myself with a specific product, or do I need to call a professional marble polishing company?

Hard water scale on marble is a common issue in Dubai due to the high mineral content in our desalinated water. The cloudiness is likely a combination of limescale deposits and etching from acidic cleaners, which permanently dulls the polished surface.
For a mild case, you can try a dedicated marble-safe hard water stain remover. Avoid all acidic products like vinegar or generic bathroom cleaners, as they chemically burn the calcium carbonate in the marble. Use only neutral pH cleaners designed for stone. Gently agitate with a soft cloth, never an abrasive scrubber, and rinse thoroughly. However, if regular mopping made it worse, the etching is probably advanced. DIY methods risk permanent damage. A professional assessment is strongly recommended. They can determine if the damage is only on the surface, requiring a crystallisation polish, or if it has penetrated deeper, needing diamond grinding and honing. The high humidity here can also cause moisture to become trapped under the coating, exacerbating the problem if not handled correctly. A reputable company will provide a clear diagnosis and method for restoring the finish. |
