Can I remove black mold myself or need a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the back of the walk-in wardrobe on an exterior wall. It's been really humid lately and I'm worried it's spreading because my allergies have been acting up. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional, and what’s the typical cost range for a small job like this in Dubai?

While a small, surface-level mold patch might seem like a DIY candidate, the context of your situation in Dubai makes professional assessment highly advisable. The combination of high humidity, your allergy symptoms, and the location on an exterior wall are significant red flags.

Using bleach from a hardware store is not recommended. It only bleaches the visible mold without addressing the root cause—the hidden moisture within the wall. It can also release harmful spores into the air during scrubbing, potentially worsening your allergies. In the UAE's climate, where year-round AC usage can create condensation and high humidity fosters rapid growth, a superficial clean will almost certainly lead to recurrence.

For a proper remediation, the source of moisture must be identified and resolved. This often requires professional equipment like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras. The cost for a small, contained area like a wardrobe in Dubai can typically range from AED 1,500 to AED 3,500, depending on the extent of the moisture damage and the required repairs.

Given your health symptoms and the risk of the problem being more extensive than it appears, I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Our team at Saniservice can conduct a thorough assessment to identify the moisture source, contain the area to prevent cross-contamination, and safely remove the mold following Dubai Municipality guidelines.
