Can I remove post-sandstorm grit myself or need a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom windows are constantly covered in a fine, gritty dust no matter how often I wipe them down. We had a few sandstorms roll through Al Barsha last month and I feel like the grit has seeped into everything, even my curtains and AC vents. I’m spending every weekend cleaning but it never feels truly gone. Is this a job I can handle with regular cleaning supplies or should I just call in a professional deep cleaning service to get rid of it for good?

Post-sandstorm grit is a pervasive issue in Dubai due to fine silica particles that can infiltrate the smallest openings. Regular wiping often just redistributes the dust. For a standard clean, you can manage it yourself with a specific method: use a vacuum with a HEPA filter on vents and soft surfaces first, then damp microfibre cloths on hard surfaces to trap the grit instead of spreading it.
However, if the grit has entered the AC system, which is common with continuous post-storm operation, DIY cleaning reaches its limit. The fine dust coats internal evaporator coils and ductwork, reducing efficiency and potentially circulating particulate matter. In high-humidity climates, this dust layer can also trap moisture and lead to microbial growth. For a situation where the dust feels never-ending and has entered fabrics and the ventilation system, a professional deep clean is the most effective solution. They use truck-mounted HEPA extraction for carpets and upholstery and specialized antimicrobial steam cleaning for surfaces. Crucially, they can conduct an inspection and cleaning of the AC internal components, which is key to stopping the cycle of recontamination. This is particularly recommended if household members experience heightened allergy symptoms or if the AC's cooling performance has diminished. |
