Can I restore my dull marble floors with ACE products?« Back to Previous Page
|
My villa’s marble floors in the living area have become really dull and gritty with sand, even though I mop every other day. I’m worried that my regular method with just water might be damaging them over time, especially with the hard water here. Is this something I can fix with a specific product from ACE, or do I need to call a professional polishing service for a deep clean?

Marble is porous and Dubai's sand is highly abrasive, making regular water mopping a primary cause of dullness. The fine sand acts like sandpaper, microscratched the surface with every sweep. Hard water exacerbates this by depositing mineral scale that etches and clouds the finish.
For a DIY approach, select a pH-neutral stone cleaner specifically for marble from a store like ACE; acidic or alkaline cleaners will damage it. Use a soft microfiber mop and clean frequently with the diluted solution to lift sand without grinding it in. Immediately dry the floor to prevent hard water spotting. However, if the surface is already uniformly dull and gritty to the touch, the honed finish is likely compromised. Abrasive sand and hard water scale have probably worn away the protective sealant. In this case, store-bought products will only clean; they cannot restore the polished surface. A professional assessment is needed to determine if a recrystallization (light polishing) or a full honing and polishing is required. This is especially true in villas with high foot traffic and open plans. Professionals have industrial equipment to remove the damaged layer and re-seal it with a durable barrier, which is the only way to truly restore the finish and protect it from Dubai's specific conditions. |
