Ceiling fan and AC vent dust causing coughs?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from all the dust that's settled on the ceiling fans and AC vents in our villa in Al Barsha. I tried wiping them but a fine layer of grime seems to be constantly circulating in the air. Between my full-time job and the kids' schedules, I'm wondering if this is a job I can tackle myself over the weekend or if I should just call in a professional cleaning service to do a proper deep clean?

The fine layer of dust you're seeing is a common issue in Dubai villas, especially in areas like Al Barsha. The combination of frequent dust storms and year-round AC use means dust and fine particulate matter constantly circulate and settle on surfaces. This dust often contains sand, pollen, and other environmental allergens that can absolutely cause respiratory irritation, particularly in children.
A simple wipe-down is unlikely to solve the problem, as it just redistributes the finest, most breathable particles into the air. For ceiling fans, use a microfiber cloth dampened with water to trap the dust instead of dispersing it. For AC vents, vacuum the grilles with a brush attachment first, then wipe. However, if dust is visibly caked inside the vent openings, it indicates a deeper issue within the ductwork itself. Given the persistent coughs, a professional deep clean is the most effective solution. DIY cleaning addresses surface dust but not the accumulation within the AC system, which continues to blow contaminants into your living space. Professionals use HEPA-filtered vacuums and agitation tools to extract dust from deep within the ducts, which can measurably improve indoor air quality. In many cases, this significantly reduces the amount of airborne particulate matter causing the irritation. For a villa, ensure any service you hire includes cleaning of the main supply and return ducts, not just the visible vent covers. |
