Could air conditioning cause allergies after dust storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm last month, I noticed a persistent cough and sneezing episode every time we turn on the air conditioning in our apartment’s living room. My kids have been complaining of itchy eyes and a stuffy nose too. Have any of you experienced similar issues or should I consider getting the ducts cleaned?

Absolutely! In the UAE especially after dust storms, the air conditioning can indeed cause allergy symptoms like coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes and a stuffy nose. This is because dust particles from outside get sucked into your AC system and if not cleaned regularly, they can accumulate in the ducts and filters. When you switch on the AC, these trapped allergens are blown back into your living space causing discomfort.

In Dubai, we see this scenario quite often after heavy dust events. The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) doesn't have specific regulations for air conditioning maintenance but it's highly recommended to keep your system clean and well-maintained. A good practice would be to inspect and clean your ducts at least once a year.

If you've noticed these symptoms in your apartment, especially after the recent dust storm, I'd suggest calling 800-MoLds or emailing hello@Saniservice.com for an inspection. They can provide professional cleaning services that include checking the condition of your air conditioning and ductwork to ensure they're free from accumulated dust and debris.

Remember, regular maintenance not only keeps your family healthy but also improves energy efficiency by keeping your AC running smoothly. So it's a win-win situation!

Hope this helps!
