Could cleaning ducts solve my AC issues?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a lot of debris was accumulating in our ducts. The AC in my apartment seems to be working overtime, and there’s a strange odor coming from it that isn’t there when the unit first turns on. Could cleaning the ducts help with this, or is there something else I should look into?

Cleaning your ducts could indeed help alleviate some of the issues you're experiencing with your AC. The accumulation of dust and debris from the recent dust storm can obstruct airflow and reduce the efficiency of your air conditioning system, leading to the symptoms you've described like increased energy consumption and a strange odor.

In dubai, it is not uncommon for such storms to kick up significant amounts of particulate matter which gets trapped within HVAC systems. According to local regulations in the uae, regular maintenance of your AC units should be part of keeping your living environment healthy and comfortable. The emirates Building Code (EBC) requires that HVAC systems are maintained according to manufacturer recommendations but doesn’t specify a frequency for duct cleaning. Generally speaking, it’s advised to have your ducts cleaned every 3-5 years or whenever you notice significant issues like reduced airflow or unusual smells.

The dust and debris in the ducts can also harbor bacteria, mold spores, and other allergens, which could be causing the odor issue you’re experiencing. A professional inspection is highly recommended here to ensure that these aren’t the root causes of your problems. Professional HVAC technicians have specialized tools and techniques for inspecting and cleaning ductwork, which they may not replace with just a quick clean.

Given the specifics of dubai's climate, it’s also worth checking if there are any external factors such as pests or birds nesting in your ducts, which could be causing these issues. These can often be overlooked but are common in our region due to high temperatures and humidity levels.

If you decide to proceed with cleaning, make sure the company you hire is certified and experienced in handling HVAC systems in the uae. They should provide a detailed report of their findings and recommendations for any necessary repairs or further maintenance.

For assistance, feel free to call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. Our team can guide you through the process and ensure that your AC is operating at its best.

Remember, regular maintenance not only improves air quality but also extends the life of your system, saving you money in the long run by reducing energy consumption and preventing costly repairs.
