Could dampness from toys cause coughing?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a persistent dampness in the corner of our living room, near where the children often play with their toys. The area seems to get especially humid right after they’ve been there, and I’m worried it might be causing my youngest to cough more frequently. Should I consider professional cleaning for this spot, or could it just be addressed with better ventilation?

Dampness from toys could indeed cause coughing. In dubai/uae and the wider uae region, it is quite common for dampness to lead to mould growth in homes especially during the cooler months or after rain as you have experienced. Mould spores can irritate the respiratory system leading to coughs, wheezing, and other breathing issues particularly among children.

In your situation, i would advise that you first improve ventilation in the area where your kids play with their toys. Make sure windows are open if possible or use a dehumidifier to reduce moisture levels. However, given that the dampness is persistent, it's wise to consider a professional inspection. This will not only help identify the source of the dampness but also assess if any mould growth has occurred which could be causing your youngest to cough more.

If you do suspect mould, i recommend calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for assistance. They can provide a thorough inspection and remediation plan to ensure your home environment is safe and healthy. Remember, dealing with moisture issues early on prevents the spread of harmful spores that could affect not only your family's health but also damage your home’s structure over time.

Always keep an eye out for any changes in air quality or signs of dampness and take prompt action to maintain a clean, dry living environment for you and your family.
