Could dirty AC ducts cause my cough and stuffiness?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we experienced last week, I noticed a persistent dry cough and stuffy nose whenever I'm in my bedroom. The AC vents seem to be blowing out a lot of dirt and dust particles too. My roommate and I are worried it might be due to the ducts not being cleaned for years. Has anyone else had similar issues or should we call a professional?

Could dirty AC ducts cause my cough and stuffiness? That's a great question and something we deal with quite often here in Dubai. The answer is yes, they can very well be the source of your discomfort.

In the UAE, especially during dust storms like the one you experienced last week, it’s not uncommon for dirt and dust to accumulate within the AC ducts. These particles can circulate through the air when the system runs, causing issues like coughing and stuffy noses. This is because as the air passes through the dirty ductwork, these particulates are released into your room.

In Dubai, we've seen numerous cases where residents reported similar symptoms after experiencing dusty weather conditions. If you notice a significant amount of dirt coming from the vents, it’s likely that the dust has been trapped in the system for quite some time and needs cleaning.

The UAE doesn’t have specific regulations mandating duct cleaning but it is highly recommended to keep your air quality at its best, particularly in areas prone to such storms. Regular maintenance can significantly improve indoor environmental quality and reduce the risk of health issues.

If you’re concerned about this issue or if symptoms persist, I recommend calling in a professional for an inspection. At Saniservice, we have extensive experience dealing with duct cleaning and can provide a thorough evaluation. Remember, keeping your air conditioning system clean not only improves comfort but also reduces energy costs by improving efficiency.
