Could dirty ducts cause our home's odor and cough?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains we experienced last month, I noticed a persistent damp smell lingering in the hallway near the kitchen. It’s not too bad, but it’s definitely there, especially when the air conditioning is on. We’ve lived here for two years, and just this week, my son started complaining of a cough that seems to get worse at home. Is it possible the musty odor could be from dirty ducts? Should I consider getting them cleaned?

Absolutely could be! Dirty ducts can indeed lead to unpleasant odors and respiratory issues like coughing. The damp smell you're experiencing might well stem from moisture build-up within the air conditioning system, especially after that heavy rain we had. In Dubai, our climate is warm and humid - it's not uncommon for such conditions to create an environment where mold and mildew can thrive.

In the UAE, according to the Building Control Department (BCD) regulations, regular maintenance of HVAC systems including duct cleaning every 3-5 years is recommended. This prevents dust build-up which could trigger allergies or worsen respiratory issues like your son's cough.

The moisture coupled with stagnant air flow in poorly maintained ducts can lead to mold growth. Mold produces spores that are airborne and can irritate the respiratory system, leading to coughing and other symptoms. It is important to address this promptly to ensure both comfort and health within your home.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection. They will thoroughly examine your ductwork and clean it if necessary. Not only will they remove the musty smell, but they'll also help prevent potential long-term issues like mold-related illnesses.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is crucial in Dubai's climate. Don’t wait until symptoms worsen; take action now to keep your home healthy and comfortable.
