Could duct cleaning solve our bedroom's issues?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we experienced a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a persistent smell in my bedroom that's been making me feel dizzy. My kids have also started complaining about coughing and runny noses every time they spend time in there. Could this be related to the ducts? Have any of you dealt with similar issues or know if getting the ducts cleaned could help?

Absolutely, duct cleaning could very well help address the issues your family is experiencing. After the recent dust storm, it's understandable to suspect that the ducts might be harboring a significant amount of dust and debris, which could certainly contribute to the smell, dizziness, and respiratory symptoms you're noticing.

In Dubai and the UAE, regulations regarding indoor air quality are not as stringent as in some other parts of the world. However, it's still crucial to ensure that your home environment is clean and healthy. Dust and allergens can accumulate over time, especially after a storm, and this can lead to unpleasant odors and respiratory issues.

Given what you've described, I would recommend having a professional inspection first to pinpoint exactly where these problems are originating from. Many local companies like Saniservice (Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com) offer comprehensive duct cleaning services that can help remove the excess dust and other particles in your system.

When you do decide to clean, ensure that the company uses advanced techniques such as HEPA filters for vacuuming and specialized equipment like negative pressure cleaners. These tools are essential for capturing even the tiniest bits of dust and ensuring that they don’t get re-circulated into your home's air.

Moreover, after cleaning, it might be a good idea to install an HVAC filter with a MERV rating of at least 13 or higher. Higher efficiency filters can trap smaller particles and help maintain cleaner indoor air.

Remember also to check the condition of your ducts themselves for any signs of damage or leaks, as these could also contribute to poor air quality. A professional will be able to inspect everything thoroughly.

In summary, while cleaning might not solve all issues, it’s a great starting point. Combining this with proper filtration and maintaining good indoor hygiene can help significantly improve the air quality in your home.

Hope this helps!
