Could dust buildup and throat issues be from dirty ducts?« Back to Previous Page

After the intense sandstorm we had last week, I noticed a strange dust buildup in the corners of the dining room. My daughter has also started to complain about an itchy throat after being in there for more than an hour. Could this be related to the ducts? How often should I have them cleaned to prevent such issues from recurring?

Could dust buildup and throat issues be from dirty ducts? The short answer is yes, it’s possible. In Dubai's climate, where we are prone to sandstorms and high humidity levels, the air quality inside our homes can significantly deteriorate. Dust, allergens, and other particulates can accumulate in your HVAC system, including the ductwork. These particles can be stirred up when you use your system, potentially leading to respiratory issues like itchy throats.

In the UAE, especially in Dubai, indoor air quality is a critical concern due to our harsh environmental conditions. According to the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Environment (MDE), maintaining good indoor air quality by regularly inspecting and cleaning your ducts can help prevent health issues such as allergic reactions or asthma attacks.

If you’ve noticed dust buildup in corners of the dining room after a sandstorm, it’s likely that these particles have been circulating through your HVAC system. Additionally, your daughter's reaction could be due to irritants like pollen, mold spores, or even fine particulate matter from the sandstorm that has made its way into the air.

To keep your indoor environment healthy and comfortable, professional duct cleaning is recommended every 3-5 years for most homes in Dubai. However, if you experience frequent issues like those reported by your daughter, it might be wise to have a thorough inspection sooner. This will help identify any potential health hazards or system inefficiencies that need addressing.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for an assessment and cleaning service. Proper maintenance not only improves air quality but also increases the efficiency of your HVAC system, potentially saving you money on energy bills in the long run.

Remember, keeping a clean duct system is crucial to maintaining good indoor air quality, especially during times like these when dust and pollutants can easily infiltrate your home.
