Could dust storms cause respiratory issues?« Back to Previous Page
|
After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a lot of debris and cobwebs collecting behind the air ducts in our master bedroom. The AC filters were also extremely dirty, and my kids have been coughing more than usual since then. Have you experienced similar issues after storms or do you think this could be causing their respiratory problems?

Dust storms can indeed cause respiratory issues especially for children and those who have pre-existing conditions like asthma. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, dust storms are common occurrences during certain times of the year and can bring a lot of particulate matter into the air that is harmful to breathe.
In your case, with the recent heavy dust storm, it's not surprising to find an accumulation of debris and cobwebs behind the air ducts in your master bedroom. Given the size of particles and the quantity that can be stirred up during storms, it’s possible this has led to a significant increase in airborne particulates within your home. This could very well explain why your kids have been coughing more than usual. The AC filters you mentioned being extremely dirty are also indicative of higher levels of dust and debris passing through them. In a storm such as the one you experienced, it's common for the filters to become clogged quickly, which can affect both the efficiency and quality of air that circulates within your home. In Dubai, there are regulations concerning indoor environmental quality that businesses must follow, but individuals should also be aware of maintaining good air quality in their homes. Ensuring regular maintenance and cleaning of HVAC systems is crucial, especially after storms like the one you've just experienced. I would highly recommend calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection to ensure that your home's air quality is up to standard. They can help clean out any debris from behind the ducts and provide necessary maintenance on your HVAC system to prevent future issues. Remember, keeping your indoor environment clean and well-maintained is key in maintaining good respiratory health, especially during times when outdoor conditions are less favorable. |
