Could dusty smell be from duct issues?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a strange, dusty smell lingering in our living room. It's particularly noticeable when someone enters from outside after being out all day. The AC filter seems pretty clean, but it can’t be that because of how long this has been going on. Has anyone else experienced similar issues or should I consider having the ducts cleaned?

Yes, the dusty smell could indeed be related to duct issues. In our region of Dubai/UAE, it's common for dust storms to stir up a lot of particulate matter that can find its way into your HVAC system and ductwork if not properly maintained.

In the UAE, there are no specific regulations mandating regular duct cleaning but it is highly recommended as part of a comprehensive indoor air quality management plan. The strange lingering smell after someone enters from outside could be due to dust particles becoming agitated when the doors are opened, causing the odour to become more noticeable.

To properly diagnose and address this issue, it’s wise to have your ducts inspected by professionals. They can check for any build-up of dirt, debris, or mold that might not be visible from a simple filter inspection. A thorough cleaning may resolve the problem but if you notice any signs of mold growth due to moisture issues, it's crucial to address those as well.

If this is something you're concerned about, I'd recommend reaching out to Saniservice at 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com. They offer professional duct cleaning and inspection services that are tailored to the conditions here in Dubai. Regular maintenance can significantly improve your indoor air quality and reduce potential health risks.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is key for a healthy living environment. If you notice any unusual smells or other issues, don't hesitate to take action.
