Could humidity cause respiratory issues?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running almost non-stop these days, but even with it on full blast, I can still smell a musty odor coming from somewhere. It’s especially noticeable when we’re all home together, and the kids have been complaining of stuffy noses and coughing more than usual. Have any of you noticed similar issues in your homes after the recent humidity surge? Could this be causing respiratory problems for my family?

Humidity can indeed play a significant role in respiratory issues, especially during the recent surge in humidity levels that we've experienced here in Dubai. It's quite common to see an increase in mold growth and dust mites when humidity is high, which could explain the musty smell you're noticing and your family's complaints of stuffy noses and coughing.

In the UAE, including Dubai, our climate can be very challenging for indoor air quality due to the high temperatures and variable humidity. During summer, we often see humidity levels spike, and this can indeed create a breeding ground for mold, bacteria, and dust mites, all of which are known triggers for respiratory issues such as asthma, allergies, and coughs.

It's important to monitor your home’s relative humidity (RH) level. Ideally, you should keep it between 30-50%. If you're noticing that the AC isn't able to sufficiently reduce the RH despite running on full blast, this could be a sign of higher-than-normal moisture levels in your apartment.

To tackle the issue, start by ensuring your air conditioning system is functioning correctly and consider using dehumidifiers if necessary. Proper ventilation can also help reduce humidity, especially in areas where water might accumulate such as bathrooms or kitchens.

However, it's crucial to rule out any more serious issues that could be causing these symptoms. If you're still experiencing problems despite addressing the basic factors, it would be advisable to call for a professional inspection. At our company, we offer comprehensive indoor air quality assessments and can help identify and address any underlying issues such as mold growth or contamination.

Don't hesitate to contact us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a free consultation. We're here to ensure your home remains a healthy environment for you and your family.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is key to preventing respiratory issues in the long run. Regular checks and proactive measures can make a big difference.
