Could mold cause these symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storms we had last week, I've noticed a persistent musty smell coming from our closet. My kids have also been complaining of chest congestion and sneezing, especially in that corner where they play with their toys. Could this be related to mold or some kind of indoor air pollution?

Yeah, def could be. Mold's known to cause respiratory issues and other symptoms like the ones yer kiddos are havin'. In the UAE, we've seen a few cases where old moldy closets led to similar complaints.

First thing is, don't just assume it's mold though. Dust storms can stir up all sorts of stuff that might be causing the smell and irritations. But if it smells musty or damp, and especially if it's been humid lately, mold could very well be the culprit.

In Dubai, we've got some local regulations around indoor air quality, but they're more general guidelines than strict standards like in some places. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) does keep an eye on these things, so it’s wise to check with them or a pro if you're concerned.

If the situation seems serious or is causing noticeable health issues, then I'd really recommend callin' in an expert. Saniservice can do a thorough inspection for ya. They got folks who know what they’re doin’ and can help identify the exact cause of your problem.

In the meantime, try to keep the closet door closed if possible, and maybe use a dehumidifier or open a window if it's not too windy. Make sure you're using air purifiers and good quality filters in your home as well. This might help reduce some of the irritants.

And don't forget to remind kids about handwashing and not touching their faces—especially when they’re playing with toys. If symptoms persist or worsen, see a doc for advice too.

So yeah, it could be mold, but it’s best to get a pro in there to have a look. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com if you need some help.
