Could mold from bathroom cause family symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a greenish mold growing on the ceiling near the bathroom. The smell is really musty and it’s making my throat itch and eyes water, especially when I’m home at night. My kids have been complaining of headaches too. Could this be from the mold? What can we do about it?

Could mold from bathroom cause family symptoms?

Absolutely. Mold exposure can lead to a variety of health issues and symptoms, especially if it's growing in damp areas like your ceiling near the bathroom. The greenish discoloration you noticed could be indicative of mold growth, which is common after heavy rain or water damage. This type of mold usually produces spores that can irritate the airways, leading to respiratory issues such as coughing and wheezing. Additionally, mold can produce mycotoxins which are harmful when inhaled.

The musty smell you mentioned, along with your throat itching and eye watering, is a classic sign of mold exposure. For children, symptoms like headaches could also be related to the presence of mold. Younger individuals often have more sensitive immune systems making them prone to such reactions.

It's crucial that you take immediate action before the situation worsens. Mold can spread quickly and may lead to severe health issues if not addressed promptly.

In the UAE/Dubai, it’s important to know that according to local environmental health regulations, mold growth in residential areas must be managed properly. The Environmental Health Authority (EHA) of Dubai has specific guidelines for dealing with mold contamination.

I would recommend calling 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or emailing hello@saniservice.com to arrange a professional inspection and remediation service. A certified expert can assess the extent of the damage, remove the visible mold, and ensure your home is safe from future infestations.

In the meantime, try to avoid direct contact with the affected area, wear protective clothing if you need to clean up, and consider using air purifiers or dehumidifiers to reduce indoor moisture levels. Remember, prompt action can prevent further health issues for you and your family.

Stay well and take care of your home!
