Could poor air quality cause nosebleeds?« Back to Previous Page

Since we moved into our new apartment last year, my kids have been having more frequent nosebleeds, especially in the bedroom where they sleep. The room doesn’t seem to get much airflow because of its position, and I’ve noticed a stale smell whenever the AC is off. Could this be related to indoor air quality? What should I do to improve the situation for them?

Could poor air quality cause nosebleeds? Yes, it can. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, indoor air quality (IAQ) issues are a common concern. The dry climate and frequent sandstorms can exacerbate existing issues or create new ones, especially when you consider the environment within your home.

In your case, the stale smell and lack of airflow could indicate poor ventilation which is one of the key factors contributing to IAQ problems. In Dubai, regulations such as EN 13788 specify that indoor air should be monitored for contaminants like carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter, and humidity levels. These can all impact your kids' health leading to nosebleeds.

Firstly, ensure the room has adequate ventilation. Open windows when possible, especially during cooler hours of the day. Consider installing an exhaust fan or a whole-house ventilation system to improve air circulation. Also, check if you have any mold growth as it is common in damp areas and can irritate your kids' respiratory systems.

Another factor could be the use of certain materials or products in your home that release VOCs, such as furniture, paint, or cleaning agents. Switching to low-VOC alternatives might help. The humidity levels are also important; aim for a relative humidity between 30% and 50%. Too dry air can irritate nasal passages leading to nosebleeds while too much moisture can foster mold growth.

Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com if you suspect any serious IAQ issues. Our team of experts will conduct a thorough inspection, identifying potential sources of contaminants and recommending remedial actions tailored specifically for Dubai's climate and regulations. Remember to keep your AC units cleaned regularly as dust and dirt can accumulate inside leading to poor air quality.

Improving indoor air quality not only addresses the nosebleeds but also enhances overall health and comfort in your home.
