Could poor air quality cause these symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running more often lately, and there's this persistent odor that I can't place. It’s really noticeable when we come home from outside. My kids have been complaining of sore throats and runny noses, especially at night. Could this be related to the indoor air quality?

Absolutely. Poor indoor air quality can definitely lead to the symptoms your family is experiencing. The persistent odor and increased usage of AC could be signs that there's an underlying issue at play.

In Dubai, our climate makes it especially challenging to maintain good indoor air quality due to high temperatures and humidity levels, particularly during summer months. Common culprits for such issues include mold growth, dust mites, or even volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from new furnishings or cleaning products. Given your concerns about the odor and increased AC use, it's quite possible that mold is a factor here.

Molds thrive in damp environments and can release spores that irritate the respiratory system, leading to sore throats, runny noses, and other symptoms you're noticing. Additionally, if there’s been any water damage or leaks recently, this could be contributing to the problem.

I'd recommend reaching out to a professional for an inspection. Here in Dubai, companies like Saniservice can help identify sources of poor air quality and provide effective remediation solutions. You can call them on 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.

In the meantime, try to improve indoor air by ensuring good ventilation when possible, keeping humidity levels low with dehumidifiers, and regularly cleaning your AC filters. Also, check for any signs of water damage in your apartment and address them promptly.

Remember, maintaining a healthy living environment is crucial, especially given the unique climate challenges we face here in Dubai/UAE.
