Could the odor be from a dirty humidifier?« Back to Previous Page

Since we got our new humidifier a few months ago, I’ve noticed this strange odor coming from it, especially when it’s on at night. The kids have been complaining of stuffy noses and mild coughs ever since. Is this something to be worried about, or could it just be the humidifier needs cleaning?

Could the odor be from a dirty humidifier? That's a concern that many folks have experienced especially here in Dubai and the UAE. The smell could indeed come from a buildup of dirt, mold or bacteria inside your new humidifier. In our region, it’s common to experience higher humidity levels during certain times of the year which can contribute to these issues.

In Dubai, we often recommend regular cleaning and maintenance of humidifiers as per local health guidelines. The UAE has no specific regulations for humidifiers but following general hygiene protocols is key to ensure you don’t face health issues like stuffy noses or mild coughs from your family members.

To address the smell, start by thoroughly cleaning your humidifier according to the manufacturer's instructions. Most models suggest using a 50:50 mixture of water and white vinegar for a good soak and then rinsing it clean with water before use. Make sure you dry all parts completely before reassembling and using it.

If the smell persists, or if you notice any discoloration, mold growth, or other unusual signs within your humidifier, I'd recommend calling in a professional inspection. Here at Saniservice, we offer reliable services for indoor air quality assessments including checking humidifiers. Our team can provide peace of mind and help fix the issue.

Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to health. So if you're still worried or the symptoms persist, don’t hesitate to reach out us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an expert evaluation.

Cleaning your humidifier regularly and maintaining it properly can go a long way in ensuring that you enjoy clean air in your home without any unpleasant odors.
