Could the odor be from the AC unit coil?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a strange odor coming from the corner of the kitchen where we keep the AC unit. It’s mostly when the air conditioner is running, but it makes me worry about my children playing nearby. Could this be related to something in the coil? What should I do to clean it properly and safely?

Could the odor be from the AC unit coil? Well, it's quite plausible. The AC unit coils can indeed harbor mold and mildew which might produce unpleasant smells, especially after a rain event that could have introduced moisture into your system.

In Dubai/UAE, environmental standards are stringent due to the hot climate and high humidity levels, making it particularly important to maintain air conditioning systems properly. Moisture build-up in AC units can lead to corrosion of metal parts but more importantly, it provides an ideal environment for mold growth. This is especially true when the system wasn't cleaned for a while or if there was any leakage during the recent rain.

The smell you're experiencing could definitely be related to something in the coil. It’s not uncommon to find musty odors emanating from poorly maintained air conditioning units, particularly those that haven’t been serviced since the last rainy season. The moisture can lead to an environment where bacteria and fungi thrive, producing off-putting aromas.

It's advisable to have your AC unit inspected by a professional. In Dubai, companies like Saniservice are well-equipped to handle such issues with expertise in local regulations and climate conditions. They will check the entire system for any signs of mold, clean the coils thoroughly, and ensure that the air flow is unrestricted. They also perform necessary disinfections and sanitizations.

If you decide to proceed with a professional inspection, please call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com for more information on their services. Remember, keeping your home’s air quality clean is crucial especially if there are children around.

Do not delay as neglecting this could potentially lead to worse issues down the line. Trust a professional who understands local environmental standards and climate conditions to keep your AC unit in top shape and ensure that you and your family breathe easy.
