Could this basement mold affect my kids?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rain last month, I noticed a musty smell coming from the basement, especially when I open the door. Upon closer inspection, I saw what looked like black spots on some of the walls and even on parts of the ceiling. It’s worrying because my kids have been complaining about coughing fits lately. Could this be mold, and what should I do to address it?

Yeah, it's quite possible that the mold in your basement could affect your kids. Mold can release spores into the air which may cause respiratory issues like coughing and wheezing, especially for children whose immune systems are still developing. In Dubai/UAE, we're seeing a lot of cases where heavy rains followed by high humidity levels lead to such problems.

Firstly, don't panic but take this situation seriously. The UAE has specific regulations regarding mold remediation and indoor air quality which you should be aware of. For a case like yours, it's best not to attempt DIY cleaning; instead, call in the professionals at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for an inspection.

The experts will come to your home, assess the situation, and determine if mold is indeed present. They'll also identify its extent and source, which could be due to water damage from last month's heavy rains. If it’s confirmed that you’ve got mold, they’ll suggest a remediation plan tailored for Dubai’s climate conditions.

In the meantime, try to limit your kids' exposure by keeping doors closed between rooms and using air purifiers with HEPA filters if possible. Also, avoid using fans as they can spread spores around the house.

It's also a good idea to look into improving your home's ventilation system and addressing any water issues in your basement to prevent mold from coming back. Remember, early detection and proper remediation are key to protecting both health and property value in our region.
