Does my AC need coil cleaning or something else?« Back to Previous Page

My AC unit in the living room has been making this weird, almost gurgling noise lately, and I noticed the air coming out isn't as cold as it used to be. I live on the 12th floor in a high-rise in Dubai Marina, and I've been trying to keep the temperature down with this heat wave. After checking the filters, they seem clean, but I can see some dust buildup on the coils when I peek inside. Could this be a sign that I need to get the coils cleaned, or is there something else I should be looking into?

It sounds like you are experiencing some common issues that can arise with air conditioning units, especially in a high-rise setting like Dubai Marina, where humidity and heat can take a toll on system efficiency. The gurgling noise and reduced cooling performance can indeed be indicative of several factors, and cleaning the coils is certainly one of the potential solutions.

Firstly, it's great that you've checked the filters, as clean filters are vital for maintaining airflow and system efficiency. However, if there's dust buildup on the coils, that can lead to decreased heat exchange efficiency, which could explain the warmer air coming from your AC. Over time, debris and dust can accumulate on both the evaporator and condenser coils, which can hinder their ability to absorb and dissipate heat effectively.

In Dubai, the extreme temperatures and humidity levels can exacerbate these issues. The UAE has specific regulations regarding indoor air quality and HVAC maintenance, which emphasize the importance of regular maintenance to ensure optimal indoor environmental quality. For residential buildings, it's generally recommended to have a professional inspection and cleaning of your AC system, including the coils, at least once a year. Considering the heat wave you’re experiencing, it might be wise to consider scheduling this sooner rather than later.

Additionally, the gurgling noise you mentioned could also be associated with refrigerant issues or even a drain clog. If the refrigerant levels are low, it can lead to inefficiencies and strange noises, while a clogged drain can cause water to back up and produce sounds.

Given these possibilities, I recommend that you contact a professional environmental inspection and remediation company for a thorough inspection. They will be able to assess the condition of your coils, check for refrigerant levels, and ensure that there are no blockages in the drainage system.

If you’re in need of immediate assistance, don’t hesitate to call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional consultation. It’s always better to address these issues early on to avoid more significant problems down the line. Regular maintenance not only improves your AC’s efficiency but also enhances the overall indoor air quality of your home.
