How can I clean my AC coils myself in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom AC unit in our Jumeirah villa has started blowing weak, warm air again, just like it did last summer before I got it cleaned. I can actually see a layer of dust and sand on the coils when I pop the filter out. I want to avoid another expensive service call and the sleepless nights in this heat. What’s the best routine I can do myself to keep the coils clean between professional services?

As an indoor environmental quality specialist in Dubai, I understand your frustration. The combination of our constant AC usage, high humidity, and fine desert sand is a perfect storm for coil blockages, which directly causes weak, warm airflow and skyrocketing electricity bills.

For a basic interim clean, safety is your first priority. Always turn off the AC circuit breaker before attempting any work. Gently vacuum the visible coils through the filter slot using a soft brush attachment to remove the loose layer of dust and sand. You can follow this by lightly misting the coils with a coil cleaner spray (readily available at hardware stores), allowing it to foam and dissolve the grime as per the product instructions, and then carefully rinsing it with a low-pressure spray bottle of water. Ensure all components are completely dry before restoring power.

However, this is a surface-level solution. A professional hygienization service is crucial at least annually. DIY methods cannot address the microbial growth (mold, bacteria) that thrives in our humid climate deep within the coil fins and drain pan. Furthermore, improper cleaning can easily damage the delicate aluminum fins or cause electrical issues.

For a comprehensive clean that ensures efficiency, improves your bedroom's air quality, and protects your health, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and hygienization service. Our team at Saniservice uses specialized equipment and EPA-approved disinfectants to safely and thoroughly clean, disinfect, and protect your entire AC system.
