How can I prevent balcony debris and residue?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy storms we had last week, I noticed a lot of debris washing up on our balcony, and it’s starting to look pretty bad. The saltwater has also left a layer of white residue that’s hard to clean off. How can I prevent this from happening again or at least make sure it doesn’t get out of hand?

Cleaning up coastal debris and managing the saltwater residue can indeed be challenging, especially after storms. In Dubai/UAE, you'll want to keep a close eye on your balcony as it's exposed to these elements.

First off, it is highly recommended that you have an environmental inspection done by professionals like Saniservice. This will not only help in identifying the source of the debris but also ensure your building's compliance with UAE regulations such as the Building Code 2014 and the Environmental Regulations set forth by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD). These codes are quite stringent, so it’s best to stay ahead of potential issues.

To prevent debris buildup, consider installing a stormwater management system on your balcony. This could include rain gutters or screens that can catch large pieces before they reach your space. Additionally, keeping the balcony clear of loose items like planters or outdoor furniture that might be blown away by strong winds is crucial.

For dealing with saltwater residue, you’ll need to clean up as soon as possible after a storm hits. A mixture of mild detergent and water can help break down the white residue, making it easier to scrub off. Avoid using harsh chemicals which could damage your balcony’s finish or leach into your building materials over time.

Regular maintenance is key here. Schedule quarterly inspections with Saniservice to ensure that any potential issues are caught early. They can also provide advice on how to seal and protect your balcony from future saltwater exposure, perhaps suggesting the use of UV-resistant sealants which are commonly used in coastal areas like Dubai.

Lastly, staying informed about weather forecasts and preparing your balcony before a storm could save you lots of cleanup work. Covering or securing all outdoor items is essential, as well as ensuring that downspouts and gutters are clear to direct water away from your space.

Remember, if the problem persists or gets out of hand, don’t hesitate to call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) for professional assistance. It’s better to nip issues in the bud than deal with a major clean-up later on.

Hope this helps!
