How often should AC filters be cleaned?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a layer of fine dust settling on everything in our living room. The AC filters are also extremely dirty with debris that feels like it’s been sitting there for months, not just weeks. Given how often we use the air conditioning here in Dubai, shouldn’t this be cleaned more regularly? Should I call a professional or is there an easy way to clean it myself?

AC filters in Dubai should be cleaned every 1 to 3 months depending on the usage and environment. In our region where sandstorms are a regular occurrence, it's advisable to clean them more frequently – perhaps every month or even every two weeks during dust season.

Given the recent heavy dust storm you mentioned, it’s probable that your AC filters have accumulated a significant amount of debris. The fine particles from the storm can easily bypass standard filter systems and settle throughout your home, contributing to what you noticed in your living room.

The UAE doesn't have specific regulations mandating how often to clean AC filters but it's crucial for maintaining air quality and efficiency of your air conditioning system. A dirty AC filter not only affects the airflow but also can impact the overall indoor air quality and could lead to higher energy bills as your AC works harder.

DIY cleaning is possible, but you need to ensure you're doing it correctly. First, turn off the power supply to avoid any electrical hazards. Gently remove the old filter (most are designed for easy replacement), wash it with a mild detergent solution if it’s not too dirty, and allow it to dry completely before reinserting it. For extremely dirty filters or during dust storms, it's best to replace them rather than clean.

If you find that your AC system is consistently clogged despite regular cleaning, it might be worth calling in professionals for a thorough inspection. They can check the entire ductwork and identify any hidden issues like leaks or blockages. At Saniservice, we recommend such inspections at least once a year to ensure optimal performance of your air conditioning.

Don't wait till the next dust storm to act! Consider scheduling regular maintenance visits from professional service providers who have experience dealing with local climatic conditions. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for more information on how we can help keep your home's indoor environment clean and healthy.

Remember, a clean AC system means fresher air and better energy efficiency – making the summer in Dubai just that bit more comfortable!
