How often to clean AC ducts in Dubai for kids?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual lately, and I'm worried it's because of the dusty air coming from our AC vents in our villa in Al Barsha. We had the ducts cleaned about a year ago after the last sandstorm, but the dust seems to be building up again really quickly. What's the best schedule for duct cleaning here to actually keep on top of this, especially with young children at home?

Duct cleaning frequency in Dubai depends heavily on your specific environment. For a villa in Al Barsha with children, annual cleaning is a good baseline, but you may need it more frequently.

The extreme dust from sandstorms and year-round AC use creates a perfect storm for duct contamination. When ducts are dirty, they continuously recirculate dust, allergens, and potentially mould spores throughout your home, which can absolutely irritate children's respiratory systems and cause persistent coughing.

Since your children are already symptomatic, a simple cleaning may not be sufficient. The underlying issue could be a leak in the ductwork pulling in attic dust, or microbial growth from high humidity being blown through the system. A professional inspection with a borescope camera can identify these specific problems—otherwise, you're just treating the symptom. After a proper assessment and cleaning, using high-efficiency filters (MERV 13 or higher, if your system allows) can help trap more dust and slow down the reaccumulation inside the ducts.
