How to permanently fix high humidity in my Al Barsha bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom in our villa in Al Barsha gets incredibly humid overnight, to the point where the walls feel damp in the morning. We run the AC constantly, but it doesn't seem to pull the moisture out effectively, and I’m starting to worry about mold. What’s the best way to deal with this persistent humidity issue for good?

This is a common issue in Dubai villas, especially in rooms with high occupancy overnight. The AC may be running, but it's likely set to a low temperature for comfort, not optimized for humidity removal, which is its primary dehumidifying function in our climate.

First, check that your AC unit is the correct size for the room; an oversized unit will cool the air too quickly and shut off before it has adequately removed moisture, a process known as 'short cycling'. Ensure the evaporator coils are clean, as a layer of dust and microbial biofilm severely impairs their ability to condense water vapor. A professional deep clean of the entire system, not just the filters, is often needed.

For a permanent solution, consider installing a dedicated, standalone dehumidifier in the bedroom. These appliances are specifically designed to extract moisture from the air independently of the temperature setting and are highly effective in enclosed spaces like bedrooms. Also, verify the room is properly sealed. Check for leaks around windows and doors, as Dubai's high external humidity will constantly seep in.

If dampness is already present on walls, a mould inspection is prudent. Visible mould or a persistent musty smell indicates that professional assessment and remediation are necessary to resolve the existing growth before it affects air quality and health. For villas, this level of diagnosis often requires a specialist with the tools to identify the moisture source and extent.
