How to treat black ceiling mold in my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page
|
My villa in Al Barsha has started getting these tiny black spots in the corners of the master bedroom ceiling, especially near the window. I first spotted them a couple of weeks ago and they seem to be slowly spreading, which has me worried it might be the start of mold. With the humidity picking up, what’s the most effective way to treat this myself to stop it from getting worse before I have to call in a professional?

The black spots are likely mold, a common issue in Dubai villas due to high humidity and temperature differentials between air-conditioned rooms and the warm outdoors. This condensation creates the damp environment mold needs to grow, especially in corners with less air circulation.
For a small, new patch, you can treat it yourself. Wear a mask and gloves. First, identify and address the moisture source; it's often condensation from an AC vent or a small leak. Wipe the area with a diluted white vinegar solution (one part vinegar to one part water) or a commercial mold remover. Avoid bleach, as it only removes the color and doesn't kill the roots. After cleaning, ensure the area is completely dry. Improve air circulation in the room by regularly using ceiling fans and directing AC vents away from the ceiling to minimize cold spots. If the area is larger than one square meter, the mold returns quickly after cleaning, or you notice a musty smell, it's time for a professional assessment. Recurring mold often indicates a hidden issue, like insulation problems within the ceiling or compromised AC ductwork that requires specialized equipment to diagnose and remediate safely. |
