Is AC coil cleaning urgent for gurgling unit?« Back to Previous Page

My AC unit in the bedroom has been making a gurgling sound and the air just isn't as cold as it used to be, especially in the afternoons. I live in a villa in Al Barsha and I'm pretty sure it's never been cleaned in the three years we've been here. With summer really kicking in now, how urgent is it to get the coils cleaned? Could it cause a complete breakdown if I wait another couple of weeks?

Gurgling sounds and reduced cooling, especially during peak afternoon heat, indicate a likely issue with your AC's condensate drainage system, often caused by dirty coils. In Dubai's climate, where ACs run year-round and pull in significant dust and humidity, coils can become clogged with a mix of dust and microbial growth, which then blocks the drain pan and line.

This situation is urgent from a performance standpoint. The reduced efficiency forces the unit to work harder, increasing your electricity bill. If the drain line is completely blocked, it can lead to water leakage inside your villa, potentially damaging ceilings or walls. While a complete breakdown from this alone is less common, the strain on the compressor from poor heat exchange can contribute to premature failure.

For a three-year-old villa unit in Al Barsha that's never been serviced, a professional inspection and cleaning is strongly advised. They will clear the drain line and clean the evaporator coils, which is crucial for restoring airflow and cooling capacity. This is not a DIY job, as it requires specific tools to access and clean the coils properly without damaging their delicate fins. After cleaning, expect a noticeable improvement in cooling performance and a reduction in the unit's operational strain.
