Is AC cycling frequently related to indoor allergens?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be cycling on and off more frequently lately, especially at night. This morning, my child woke me up with a stuffy nose and a cough. I’m worried it might be due to some allergens or mold inside the unit since it hasn’t been serviced in over a year. Have any of you experienced similar issues, and what steps should we take?

Absolutely, frequent AC cycling can be related to indoor allergens. In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, we experience high humidity levels during certain times of the year which can lead to an increase in airborne particles such as dust mites, pollen, and mold spores – all common triggers for allergic reactions.

When your air conditioner isn’t functioning efficiently or hasn't been serviced in over a year like yours, it's more likely that allergens might have accumulated within the unit. This could be contributing to your child’s stuffy nose and cough this morning. It’s important to address such concerns as soon as possible, especially given our climate.

First steps you should take include checking if the AC filters are clean or need replacement. Dirty filters can restrict airflow and lead to the system cycling on and off more frequently. In Dubai, it's a good practice to change your air filter every 3-6 months depending on usage.

If changing the filters doesn’t resolve the issue, it might be time for a professional inspection. Here in the UAE, we follow strict guidelines regarding indoor environmental quality, but it’s always wise to ensure that your unit is up to standard. A professional can check not only the filter condition but also inspect for any signs of mold or other contaminants that could be contributing to respiratory issues.

I would recommend reaching out to a service provider like us at Saniservice. We offer comprehensive indoor air quality assessments and can help identify potential sources of allergens in your home. You can call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for further assistance.

Remember, maintaining a healthy indoor environment is crucial, especially during these times when our children are more susceptible to respiratory issues. By taking proactive steps and ensuring your air conditioning unit is well-maintained, you can help reduce the risk of allergens and other harmful particles affecting the health of your family.

Take care!
