Is balcony construction dust affecting indoor cleanliness?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a fine layer of dust on everything inside my room, especially near the windows. The balcony construction seems to be the culprit, but I’m not sure if it’s coming from outside or if they’re supposed to clean up after themselves. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their rentals in Dubai?

Yeah, balcony construction dust can really cause some indoor cleanliness issues. In Dubai and the UAE generally, regulations around construction sites are pretty strict but it's not uncommon to see remnants of dust making their way into living spaces after a heavy rain or windy day.

You're right to be concerned about this issue, especially if you’re renting. The UAE has several laws and guidelines in place concerning indoor air quality, but sometimes these can get overlooked during construction phases. In Dubai, for instance, the Municipality does have stringent regulations on construction waste management and dust control (check out Section 2 of the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Regulations, 2015). However, it's not always straightforward to enforce this at all times.

Firstly, you should definitely keep an eye out for any ongoing building works near your home. If you notice a pattern of dust accumulation every time there’s construction activity nearby, especially if it’s close to your balcony or windows, then it could very well be the source of your indoor dust problem.

It's always a good idea to get in touch with the property management or landlord about this issue. They should ensure that contractors are adhering to the proper cleaning protocols and taking necessary steps to minimize dust disturbance during works. They might need to request additional measures like temporary barriers, wet washing methods, or even hiring an environmental consultant for an assessment.

If the situation continues despite communication with your landlord, you may want to consider having a professional indoor air quality inspection done. This can help identify if there are other sources of contamination and provide specific recommendations on how to address them. In Dubai, companies like Saniservice can offer these services; their contact details are 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or you could email hello@saniservice.com for more info.

In the meantime, you can take some practical steps to reduce dust in your home. Regular cleaning with a microfiber cloth and vacuum cleaner that has a HEPA filter can help. Also, keep doors and windows closed during construction works if possible to prevent dust from entering.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is important for everyone's health, especially those who might be more susceptible like kids or elderly folks. Keep monitoring the situation and don’t hesitate to act when necessary!
