Is damp smell linked to kids' colds?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy storms we had last month, I noticed a strange damp smell lingering in the basement even after everything was dry. It’s concerning because my kids have been complaining of coughs and runny noses lately, which seems way out of season for Dubai. Could this be related to indoor air quality issues?

Hey there! It's a valid concern to link the damp smell from your basement to your kids' recent colds. In Dubai and UAE, post-storm conditions can indeed bring about unique indoor air quality issues. The damp smell you're experiencing is often associated with mold growth, which thrives in humid environments like basements.

In the UAE, our climate can be quite warm and dry, but once there's moisture, it creates an ideal environment for molds to grow. Mold spores are very common and can trigger respiratory symptoms such as coughs, runny noses, and even exacerbate existing conditions in children or adults with asthma.

Given your situation, it’s prudent to have a professional inspection done. Here at Saniservice, we specialize in environmental inspections and remediation services for the UAE market. Our team can help identify if mold is present and advise on proper mitigation strategies.

It's also important to keep an eye out for other signs of water damage or moisture accumulation which could indicate deeper issues that might need addressing before they affect your indoor air quality further. Ventilating the area properly, drying things out thoroughly, and ensuring good airflow can all help prevent mold growth.

If you decide to act on this, give us a call at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or shoot us an email at hello@saniservice.com. We’d be happy to assist with a thorough inspection and provide tailored advice for your situation. Remember, keeping your indoor air clean is key to maintaining good health in Dubai’s climate.

Take care of those kids and stay healthy!
