Is dirty AC causing my kids' allergies?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be kicking up some serious dust and pollen, even though we think it’s cleaned fairly regularly. Every time we turn it on after a while, there’s this cloud of stuff that fills the whole place, and my kids have been coughing more than usual lately. Could this be causing their allergies? How can I clean or filter out these allergens better?

Yes, it is very likely that the dirty AC unit could be causing your kids' allergies. In dubai, the environment's dry and dusty conditions often lead to an increase in airborne particles like dust mites, pollen, and other allergens. When you turn on your air conditioner after a long time of not using it, those trapped particles can be stirred up and circulated throughout your home.

Firstly, i'd recommend calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for an inspection to ensure the AC unit is properly maintained. In dubai, we often see cases where dust accumulates in filters, coils, and other parts of the system which can release allergens when the AC runs.

To help reduce allergens:
1. Change your air filter regularly, at least every 30 days or as per manufacturer's instructions.
2. Clean your AC unit thoroughly by having a professional service it annually.
3. Consider using an air purifier with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter to capture tiny particles that your AC might miss.
4. Increase indoor humidity levels - this can help reduce dust mites, which are common allergens in dubai homes.

Additionally, keep the windows and doors closed during high pollen seasons and use dehumidifiers if you have them. Regularly cleaning surfaces and fabrics in your home will also help to minimize allergen exposure.

By taking these steps, you should see a noticeable improvement in indoor air quality which may well lessen the allergic reactions experienced by your kids when the AC is turned on. Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality is key to preventing allergy symptoms in children and adults alike.
