Is duct cleaning linked to our home odor?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last week, I noticed a strange odor coming from the vents in my living room. My family has been complaining of itchy eyes and congestion too, especially after turning on the air conditioner. Could this be related to duct cleaning? What should I do to prevent this issue from recurring?

Duct cleaning can indeed be linked to your home odor problem. The dust storm you experienced could have caused an influx of particulate matter and allergens into your ductwork system. When the air conditioning is turned on, these particles are pushed through your home, leading to a musty smell or other odors. This can also cause irritation like itchy eyes and congestion especially if you are sensitive.

In Dubai/UAE, our climate and environment can pose unique challenges. The high temperatures and humidity levels during certain periods of the year create an ideal breeding ground for mold, which could be contributing to your symptoms. Mold spores can easily find their way into your ductwork through small cracks or openings, especially after a storm.

Firstly, it's important to call in professionals like Saniservice (Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com) for an inspection and cleaning of your ducts. They can thoroughly clean the system and check for any signs of mold growth or other contaminants that might be affecting your indoor air quality.

Regular maintenance is key to preventing such issues from recurring. Ensure that filters are changed at least every 3 months, especially in areas prone to dust storms. It’s also recommended to have a professional inspection once a year, particularly after significant weather events like the storm you had last week.

During the cleaning process, make sure the company follows proper safety protocols, including using HEPA vacuums and appropriate disinfectants to reduce the risk of spreading mold or other contaminants during the process. After the work is done, ensure that your system dries completely to avoid any moisture-related issues that could lead to mold growth.

Remember, maintaining good indoor air quality not only improves comfort but also contributes to better overall health for you and your family. Regular cleaning and professional inspections can go a long way in ensuring that your home remains a healthy environment.
