I'm renting an apartment and noticed duct cleaning in the bathroom. Is this the landlord's responsibility to fix? I'm not sure what my rights are here.

Hello there! Based on the UAE's building and environmental regulations, duct cleaning isn't explicitly outlined as a landlord's responsibility. However, it is crucial for maintaining good indoor air quality (IAQ) which can be particularly important given Dubai’s climate.
In the UAE, landlords are generally responsible for ensuring that the basic infrastructure of your apartment is in good working condition. This includes issues like ventilation systems but the specifics can vary depending on local agreements and leases. It's always a good idea to review your rental agreement or contact your landlord directly to clarify what maintenance tasks they're expected to handle. If you've noticed ductwork issues, it might be worth having them inspected by a professional. At Saniservice, we often see dust, mold, and other contaminants in ducts which can affect your health especially if you suffer from allergies or asthma. Regular cleaning is recommended but isn't always included in standard maintenance plans. Given the importance of good IAQ for your wellbeing, I'd recommend calling us at 800-MOLDS (66537) or sending an email to hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection and advice on how often duct cleaning should be done. We can also provide you with a quote based on the condition of your ducts. Remember, while it might not be the landlord's responsibility per se, ensuring that your living environment is safe and healthy is paramount. Taking proactive steps to address potential issues like poor air quality or contaminated ductwork will help maintain the health of both yourself and any other occupants in your home. |
