Is ductwork cleaning needed due to coughs and sneezing?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had a couple of weeks ago, I’ve noticed a persistent cough and sneezing in my bedroom. The windows are rarely closed, but the air still feels gritty and unclean. My kids have been complaining about their throats hurting too. Could this be related to the ductwork in our apartment? Should I consider having it cleaned professionally?

Absolutely! Your symptoms might indeed be linked to issues within your ductwork. In the UAE, especially during dust storms, particles like sand and dust can easily infiltrate your indoor environment through poorly maintained air conditioning systems and ducts. This grittiness you mention could very well be due to accumulated debris in your ducts, which is then circulated throughout your apartment.

In Dubai and other parts of the UAE, there are specific regulations regarding indoor air quality (IAQ). According to the Building Control Department (BCD) of Dubai Municipality, it's crucial that your HVAC systems, including ductwork, are regularly inspected and maintained. This helps in ensuring a healthier living environment by reducing the risk of airborne contaminants.

The persistent coughing and sneezing you're experiencing could be due to irritants like dust mites, mold spores, or even pet dander which might have been trapped in your ducts and now being circulated throughout your space. Children are particularly vulnerable to these irritants as their respiratory systems are still developing.

Given the recent dust storm, it would be wise to consider a professional inspection of your ductwork. Some signs that may indicate you need cleaning include a noticeable increase in allergy or asthma symptoms among household members, an unpleasant smell emanating from your vents, or visible dirt or mold on your air registers.

If the issue persists after this storm and especially if more people in your family are experiencing respiratory issues, it might be time to call in professionals. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive duct cleaning services that can help remove accumulated debris, dust, and other allergens from your system, significantly improving indoor air quality.
