Is indoor condensation harmful to stay near?« Back to Previous Page

We've been in our Dubai villa for about a year now and I just discovered what looks like indoor air behind some furniture. Is this dangerous and do I need to move out during treatment?

Indoor condensation can be quite common in our climate here in the UAE and Dubai. It's not uncommon to spot it behind furniture or on other surfaces after a particularly humid day or during the cooler months when temperature differences are more pronounced between indoor and outdoor environments.

Condensation itself, while it may seem unsightly, is usually harmless as long as it dries up quickly. However, if left unchecked for extended periods, it can lead to moisture buildup which might foster mold growth - a big concern in our warm and humid climate. Mold spores can be harmful when they release airborne particles that could trigger allergies or respiratory issues.

Now, regarding your situation, if you've noticed condensation behind furniture, it's advisable to investigate further. It’s not uncommon for humidity levels to rise inside homes during the cooler months due to heating systems running and windows being sealed up tight against the chill. However, a persistent moisture problem could indicate underlying issues like an air sealing problem or even a leaky roof.

In Dubai, we do have specific building codes regarding indoor air quality and moisture control. The UAE Building Code (EN 15244) recommends maintaining relative humidity levels below 60% to minimize mold growth and improve overall indoor air quality. For your villa, it might be beneficial to consult with a professional who can assess the situation and recommend appropriate solutions.

If you feel uncomfortable or if there are signs of significant moisture such as musty odors or visible mold, I would strongly advise calling in an expert for a thorough inspection. Saniservice offers services like air quality testing and remediation that could be helpful here. You can reach them at 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com.

Remember, while you might want to stay out of areas with active moisture problems until they're resolved, the safety of your family is paramount. If you need assistance, don't hesitate to contact a professional to help ensure a healthy indoor environment for you and your loved ones.
