Is landlord responsible for bathroom mold?« Back to Previous Page

I'm renting an apartment and noticed cleaning mold in the bathroom. Is this the landlord's responsibility to fix? I'm not sure what my rights are here.

Absolutely, iF The Mold Is Not Caused By Your Actions Or Lack Of Maintenance, It Falls Under The Landlord's Responsibility In Dubai. According To The Federal Law No. 24 of 1985 On Lease Agreements, The Landlord Is Obligated To Ensure The Property Is In A Suitable Condition For Tenants. This Means Proper Maintenance And Ensuring The Home Doesn'T Have Any Severe Mold Issues That Could Harm Your Health.

However, Before You Jump To Conclusions, It's Wise To Assess If The Mold Is Due To Your Actions Or Negligence. For Instance, If You've Been Leaving The Bathroom Door Closed After A Shower And Not Ventilating Properly, This Could Lead To Moisture Build-Up And Fungal Growth. In Such Cases, The Landlord Can Argue That It's Your Duty To Keep The Property Clean And Dry.

If You Believe The Mold Is Due To Poor Maintenance By The Landlord, Document Everything. Take Photos Of The Area Affected, Note The Date, Time, And Describe What Kind Of Mold It Is (Black, Green, Yellow). Send A Formal Notice To Your Landlord Stating Your Concerns And Requesting Them To Address The Issue Within A Reasonable Time Frame.

In Dubai, You Can Also Contact The Real Estate Agency For Assistance Or File A Complaint With The Relevant Authorities If No Action Is Taken. The Department Of Municipality & Urban Planning (DM&UP) Could Be An Option Where You Can Report Maintenance Issues.

Remember, It's Crucial To Act Promptly As Mold Can Spread Quickly And Pose Health Risks. If The Situation Seems Serious, Consider Contacting A Professional Environmental Inspection Company Like Saniservice For An Assessment. They Can Provide Detailed Reports And Recommendations For Remediation.

Call 800-MOLDS Or 800-66537 To Schedule An Inspection, Or Email Hello@Saniservice.com For Immediate Assistance. This Is Especially Important If The Mold Spreads Beyond The Bathroom Or You Notice Any Respiratory Issues After Being Exposed To It.
