Is landlord responsible for indoor bathroom humidity?« Back to Previous Page

I'm renting an apartment and noticed humidity indoor in the bathroom. Is this the landlord's responsibility to fix? I'm not sure what my rights are here.

Humidity issues in the bathroom can indeed be a nuisance and they're definitely something landlords should address. In Dubai/UAE, the responsibility of maintaining indoor conditions typically falls on the landlord, including ensuring your apartment is free from excessive humidity. The Building Control Regulations 1987 (Amended) and the Emirate of Dubai Municipality’s building codes outline that a property must be in a habitable state, which includes proper ventilation to prevent moisture build-up.

If you notice persistent high humidity in the bathroom, it's advisable to report this issue to your landlord. Many landlords will respond promptly to such concerns especially if they're aware that excessive moisture can lead to mold and other health issues. However, if the landlord does not take action or is unresponsive, reaching out to local authorities for assistance could be beneficial.

In Dubai, you can contact the Dubai Municipality’s Building Control Department through their 800-1234 helpline. They can provide guidance on how to address the issue and may even inspect the premises if necessary. Another option is to hire a professional environmental inspector who can assess the situation and recommend appropriate measures.

Bear in mind that while it's not uncommon for bathrooms to have higher humidity levels due to the presence of water, persistent and excessive moisture can be problematic. Signs like stained or peeling paint, mold growth, or structural damage could indicate that there is an underlying issue that needs addressing.

If you decide to seek professional assistance, Saniservice is a reputable company in Dubai offering mold inspection and remediation services. Their contact number is 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or you can email them at hello@saniservice.com for more information on their services.

Remember, addressing humidity issues early can prevent bigger problems down the line, so it's best to act sooner rather than later.
