Is mold from ductwork causing our symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains last month, I noticed a musty smell lingering in our master bedroom. My wife and I both started experiencing mild headaches and congestion, especially when we first wake up. Given that it’s been going on for about two weeks now, I’m quite worried about whether this is due to mold or other contaminants from the ductwork. Have any of you noticed similar issues after a rainy season? Should we consider getting our air ducts cleaned professionally?

Yes, it's quite possible that mold from the ductwork could be causing your symptoms. The musty smell and your wife’s mild headaches and congestion are red flags that warrant a professional inspection of your air ducts. In the UAE, especially during the rainy season like last month, moisture can seep into the HVAC system leading to an ideal environment for mold growth.

In Dubai, we've seen similar issues where heavy rainfall can affect indoor air quality. Mold spores can spread through the ductwork and be circulated throughout your home, causing respiratory issues and headaches, especially upon waking when the heating or cooling is turned on. The UAE doesn't have specific regulations regarding duct cleaning as such but it's a good practice to maintain healthy indoor air.

It would be wise to call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for an inspection. They can assess your ducts, identify the presence of mold, and provide remediation services if necessary. Regular maintenance is key in preventing such issues; however, after a rainy season like last month, it's particularly important to ensure that your HVAC system is clean and free from moisture-related contaminants.

Remember, professional cleaning might be needed if there’s visible mold or excessive dust buildup. This will not only improve the air quality but also help prevent future health issues for you and your family.
