Is musty smell from wall mold related?« Back to Previous Page

Since the new baby came a few months ago, we’ve been really struggling with keeping up with the cleaning in our upper floor apartment. The nursery and my parents' room are right next to each other, and I keep noticing a musty smell coming from their side of the wall. It’s only noticeable after they leave for work and the house is empty, which makes me worry about them when they’re home alone with the baby. Has anyone else experienced this issue in Dubai or have any tips on how to identify and address mold growth without disturbing my parents?

Is musty smell from wall mold related? That's quite a concern for sure. In the UAE, especially here in Dubai, it’s common to experience such issues due to our climate and high humidity levels. Mold growth can indeed cause that musty odor, especially if there has been any water damage or poor ventilation.

First things first, you should definitely consider getting a professional inspection done. Here in Dubai, regulations require all buildings to maintain certain standards of indoor air quality, so it's wise to check for potential mold issues. You might want to call 800-MOLDS (or 800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a thorough assessment.

When you're at home with the baby and your parents are out, keep an eye on the humidity levels—ideally it should stay between 40% to 60%. You can use a dehumidifier if necessary. Also, ensure good airflow by opening windows whenever possible, even during the cooler Dubai mornings.

If you suspect mold growth, here’s what you can do:
1. Check for signs of water damage around the nursery and your parents’ room. Look out for dampness or discoloration on walls or ceilings.
2. Use a dehumidifier to reduce moisture levels in the air.
3. Clean any visible mold with a solution of 1 cup of bleach per gallon of water, making sure you wear gloves and mask to protect yourself.

Remember though, if the issue persists or if you see significant growth, it's best to call in a professional. They can properly remove the mold and advise on long-term solutions like improving ventilation or addressing any underlying moisture issues.

Lastly, always ensure your home is well-ventilated and that any water sources are promptly addressed. Regular cleaning and maintenance can go a long way in preventing such problems. Keeping your family safe from potential health risks is paramount!

Hope this helps!
