Is nearby construction causing our dust issue?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a fine, almost imperceptible dust settling on everything in our second-floor flat. It's particularly noticeable on the windowsills and even my kids’ schoolbooks that are kept by the window. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed this issue creeping in. Could there be some kind of construction happening nearby or is it something else causing all this dust?

Indeed, the likelihood of nearby construction causing your dust issue is quite high. In the UAE and specifically in Dubai, construction activities are a common occurrence due to rapid urban development. The fine particles you're noticing could be from such projects. However, there are several other potential causes that we should consider as well.

In the context of the United Arab Emirates, especially in densely built-up areas like Dubai, dust issues can arise from various sources including construction sites, sand storms (especially during summer), and even dry cleaning activities. According to UAE's Environmental Law 21/2008, construction companies are required to implement dust control measures such as water spraying systems on-site, fencing around the perimeter of the work area, and regular site clean-ups.

Given your situation where you've only recently noticed this dust settling in, it’s possible that a new construction project has started near your residence. The particles from these works can travel quite some distance, especially during windy conditions or after rain, which could explain why you are noticing the dust even on items kept indoors like your kids' schoolbooks.

However, before jumping to conclusions, it would be wise to conduct a professional inspection. Our company offers comprehensive indoor air quality assessments that can help identify the exact sources of dust and recommend appropriate remediation steps. If we do find construction-related particles as the cause, we can advise on measures such as using air purifiers with HEPA filters, sealing windows when possible, or even moving your belongings to a less dusty area temporarily.

If you decide not to go professional just yet, there are some basic steps you can take:
• Regularly clean surfaces and window sills
• Use damp cloths instead of dry ones to avoid spreading the dust around
• Keep windows closed during windy conditions

Should you notice any signs of mold or if the dust issue persists despite these measures, it might be time to seek professional help. Our contact details are 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or you can email us at hello@saniservice.com for further assistance.

Remember, maintaining a clean and healthy indoor environment is crucial, especially in a place like Dubai where the climate can be quite harsh during certain times of the year.
