Is odorous mold likely in ducts after storm?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy dust storm we had last month, I noticed a strange odor coming from the vents in the hallway. It’s quite strong and makes my eyes water. The AC filter hasn’t been changed recently because it was still clean when I checked earlier this year. Could this be related to dust or mold building up in the ducts? What should I do to prevent this from happening again?

Yes, odorous mold is quite likely to have formed in the ducts after that heavy dust storm. In the UAE, especially during such storms, fine particulates can carry spores and other microorganisms which find their way into your HVAC system. The warm and humid conditions inside the ductwork provide a perfect environment for mold growth.

Given the smell you've described and how strong it is, it's definitely worth having an inspection done by a professional. In Dubai, regulations are stringent to ensure indoor air quality (IAQ) standards are met. The Environmental Protection Agency of the UAE has guidelines on maintaining IAQ in buildings, particularly after extreme weather events.

I recommend reaching out to our team at Saniservice for a thorough inspection and cleaning. Our services comply with local regulations and we can provide you with a detailed report. It's also important to note that regular maintenance is key to preventing such issues; this includes not only changing the filters as needed but also having your ducts inspected every few years.

Additionally, keep an eye on your indoor air quality by using air purifiers or dehumidifiers if necessary. Ensure good ventilation and maintain a dry environment within your home or office space to discourage mold growth.

Please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection today, before the situation worsens.
