Is poor AC causing my kids' colds?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running constantly these days, even though it’s not that hot outside. Last night, I noticed a slight musty smell coming from the vent in my bedroom, which is concerning because I’ve had colds with my kids and now they seem more congested. Could this be related to the air quality or the AC system?

It sounds like your concerns about the AC system and its potential impact on your family's health are valid. In Dubai/UAE, we often experience high humidity levels which can create a favorable environment for mold growth if not properly managed. The musty smell from the bedroom vent could be a sign of this.

Poor air quality in an apartment due to malfunctioning or improperly maintained AC systems is indeed one potential cause for your kids' colds and congestion. In the UAE, we have specific regulations concerning indoor air quality (IAQ) that HVAC systems should adhere to. The Emirates Standards Authority (ESA) sets guidelines for IAQ which include maintaining appropriate levels of humidity, temperature, and cleanliness.

Given the situation you've described, it's highly advisable to call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a professional inspection. A technician can check your AC system for issues such as mold growth, filter clogging, and overall efficiency.

In the meantime, there are some steps you can take:
1. Ensure the AC filters are clean and replace them if necessary.
2. Increase ventilation by opening windows when safe to do so (check for pollution levels first).
3. Use a dehumidifier in high-humidity months or rooms where moisture is a concern.
4. Regularly check for signs of water damage which can lead to mold.

Remember, maintaining good air quality not only helps prevent illnesses but also improves overall comfort and energy efficiency in your home. Keeping an eye on the IAQ is especially important during times when your family might be more susceptible to colds or other respiratory issues.

Take care and I hope this helps!
