Is poor indoor air quality causing my symptoms?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be cycling on and off more frequently than usual, especially at night. This evening, after a particularly long cycle of cool air, my throat started feeling tight and my eyes have been watering. I’m worried it might be due to poor indoor air quality. Could this be a common issue in Dubai apartments, or should I look into getting an air purifier?

It sounds like you're experiencing some uncomfortable symptoms that could be related to indoor air quality. In the UAE, especially in Dubai where we have a high percentage of expats living in apartments and villas, it is quite common for residents to encounter issues with indoor air.

The frequent cycling of your AC system might indicate a few different things; perhaps there's an issue with temperature control or the unit itself could be malfunctioning. However, given that you're experiencing tightness in your throat and watering eyes, these symptoms can definitely point towards poor air quality within your apartment.

In Dubai, we have specific regulations regarding indoor air quality and HVAC systems to ensure comfort and health for residents. The Emirates Standard EN 13788 sets standards for the operation of ventilation and air conditioning systems. If your AC unit is not functioning properly or if there's an issue with the filtration system, it could lead to a build-up of allergens, pollutants, or other irritants in the air.

It’s important to note that Dubai's climate can make indoor air quality issues more pronounced. The high levels of humidity coupled with dust and pollen from the outside environment can exacerbate any existing problems. Additionally, if your apartment is tightly sealed without proper cross-ventilation, it could trap pollutants inside, leading to discomfort and health issues.

Considering your symptoms, I would recommend getting a professional inspection of both your HVAC system and indoor air quality. This will help identify any underlying issues that need addressing. At Saniservice, we offer comprehensive inspections and remediation services specifically tailored for the UAE market. Our team can assess your apartment’s ventilation systems, check the air filters, and conduct tests to determine the exact causes of your discomfort.

If after a professional inspection you find out that the air quality is indeed compromised, installing an air purifier could be beneficial. Look for models with high-efficiency particulate arrestance (HEPA) filters which are known for capturing small particles such as pollen, dust mites, and even some viruses. Just make sure to choose a model suitable for your apartment size.

For more information or to schedule an inspection, you can call us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com. We're here to help ensure that your indoor environment is healthy and comfortable.

Remember, addressing these issues promptly can prevent further discomfort and potential long-term health effects. Stay proactive about the air quality in your home!
